XDrive to Close Down

xdrive 2 Comments »

The breaking news is that a major player in the (US) backup market ‘XDrive‘ is being closed down. All users are being informed to backup their data as a zip file and store it elsewhere! XDrive users have until the January 12, 2009.

XDrive was owned by AOL and they have decided to close down the service as it’s not making them any money. We’ve heard similar things, i.e companies not making any money about a number of other popular low cost consumer backup solutions.

Another big reason for this is the price war these firms are in and you cannit offer the most storage for next to nothing due to equipment and transfer costs.

If you are based in the UK we recommend Depostit for secure online backups. They have been providing and supporting their business backup service for almost 10 years now and are very experienced in how much it costs to run their excellent “service!”

So if you need secure online, offsite backup solution for your laptop, apple mac, windows or linux server click here to signup for a free Depositit account today and to download their free software

Carry and transfer large files in this affordable, convenient device. The DataTraveler from Kingston Technology helps the budget-conscious user to break the storage barriers. Easily store and move large files in a device no bigger than a pocketknife. As easy as click and drag, the DataTraveler can hold just about any file you can think of term papers, theses, digital images, spreadsheets or other important documents.

It works with virtually any computer with a USB port. The DataTraveler is also a great promotional item for businesses; your company logo can appear on it to increase your brand-recognition, and it comes in multiple colors based on capacity.

This is a really good Amazon best buy, especially with the Kingston brand attached to it was one excellent thing having it at £19.99 was the added bonus. It was so good I’ve actually come back to but another one, to find it at an even cheaper price. No Ebay or Kelkoo could find this for me, what a bargain now at £9.00, now (always to handy to have as a spare).

What Hard Drive Failure looks and sounds like

Hard Drive Failure 1 Comment »

This is what a Laptop hard drive failure looks and sounds like. Backup immediately if you hear weird clicking and rattling noises. Indeed have a regular backup scheduled, regardless of how old your hard drive is.

However, if your hard drive starts to make noise, don’t take it lightly! Backup everything on the drive that you care about, and then get a new one ASAP. Hard drives are not supposed to make noises, so if you hear it, it’s a warning sign that it’s about to die.

If you are moving your portable hard drive about a lot how about a compact case to store or transport your small portable hard drives. A slimline design allows the case to easily fit into any backpack or briefcase. Durable, hardshell exterior to protect valuable data. Interior strap secures portable hard drive in place. Zippered closureFits hard drives up to: 6″ x 3.75″ x 1.25″ Below is the same product in red.

One thing to watch is that the pouch is for “slim” hard drives from the past. This is not something you can put in your pocket, as it is too big. There is a pocket inside for a USB cord, but it is also too big.
