XDrive to Close Down

The breaking news is that a major player in the (US) backup market ‘XDrive‘ is being closed down. All users are being informed to backup their data as a zip file and store it elsewhere! XDrive users have until the January 12, 2009.

XDrive was owned by AOL and they have decided to close down the service as it’s not making them any money. We’ve heard similar things, i.e companies not making any money about a number of other popular low cost consumer backup solutions.

Another big reason for this is the price war these firms are in and you cannit offer the most storage for next to nothing due to equipment and transfer costs.

If you are based in the UK we recommend Depostit for secure online backups. They have been providing and supporting their business backup service for almost 10 years now and are very experienced in how much it costs to run their excellent “service!”

So if you need secure online, offsite backup solution for your laptop, apple mac, windows or linux server click here to signup for a free Depositit account today and to download their free software

Over at Techcrunch they are saying that AOL are trying to sell XDrive for £5M

  2. George Says:

It looks as though Elephant Drive will mop a lot of XDrive’s backup customers, at least for the US Market.
